Q:
Part 2
Select any two integers between -12 and +12 which will become solutions to a system of two equations.
Write TWO EQUATIONS that have your two integers as solutions. Your solution and equations should NOT be the same as those of other students or the textbook. There are infinite possibilities.
Solve your system of equations by the Addition/Subtraction method. Make sure you show the necessary 5 steps. Use the example on Page 357 of your textbook as a guide.
Respond to at least two of your classmates’ postings. Do you agree or disagree that their examples model functions? Follow their 5 steps. Do their calculations follow the correct rules of Algebra?
5 steps
1. if necessary, write both equations in the form of ax + by + c
2. multiply one or both equations by numbers so that the absolute values of either the coefficients of the x term or the y term are alike
3. eliminate one of the variables by adding the equations if the signs of the coefficients of the variables are different. Subtract the equations if the signs of the coefficients of the variable are the same.
4. solve the resultant for the remaining variable.
5. select one equation from the original two equations, substitute the value of the variable found in step 4, and solve for the other variable.
