These operations include Acquisition, Cataloguing, Circulation, Patron Records Keeping, Searching and Reports Generating.<br><br>Acquisition:<br><br>This module handles the typical acquisition process in a Library System. This process includes all the information relevant to the purchase of books for a library. For example the date of purchase, total amount paid, total discount, total number of books in a purchase, the name and the address of the Supplier, bill no and the type of funds.<br><br>Cataloguing:<br><br>This is the main component of the Library Management System. This component stores all the information regarding a book, a serial or a CD which is received/purchased in a library. In this way a database is created which is the repository of information about any material in the library. At the same time, the catalogue cards can also be viewed on screen or printed on a specified paper.<br><br>Patron Records:<br><br>Library Management System store information about all the potential users of the material in the library. These users are referred to as Patrons. First of all “Patron Types” are defined by the Librarian which determine maximum number of books that can be issued to a Patron and the per day fine if the book is returned after due date. It also stores the picture of each patron.<br><br>Circulation:<br><br>The circulation involves the issuance and returning of books or any other material in a library. Since LMS stores all the information about Books (or any other material) and the Patrons, so it can easily manage to store the circulation information. This component shows all the books issued to a Patron or returned by a Patron, the fine payable to a Patron along with dates of issuances/returns.
