But same-sex marriage seems fair only if you accept a philosophy of marriage that, although it's gained ground in the past several centuries, still strikes many as radical: the idea that marriage (and therefore sex) is justified not by reproduction but by love. (Graff, 2006)

8
Identify the premises and conclusion of the argument. PREMISE: [pro-marriage liberals ply the rhetoric of fairness and love, as if no one will notice that for thousands of years marriage has meant Boy+Girl=Babies]. But same-sex marriage seems fair only if you accept a philosophy of marriage that, although it's gained ground in the past several centuries, still strikes many as radical: CONCLUSION: [the idea that marriage (and therefore sex) is justified not by reproduction but by love.]

9
Is the author’s argument valid or invalid, sound or unsound, strong or weak? Explain how you determined this.
I believe that the author’s argument is a strong valid argument. I can determine this because most people do fall in love and then decide to get married. However, some people do justify the idea of marriage by reproduction because the majority of people who marry want to have children, so the argument is not sound. Therefore, marriage is seen as a step toward reproduction. However, since not all married couples have children or marry for the sake of having children, the argument is a strong valid argument and not a sound argument because not all the premises are true.

10
Does the author use moral reasoning? If not, explain how you determined this.
The author uses moral reasoning because she assigns moral value judgments to each moral argument. For instance, she’s arguing for the legalization of same-sex marriages because same-sex couples need to be given the benefits that heterosexual couples enjoy such as sharing insurance and pension plans, and being given custodial rights over their children. This is an example of how he justifies each moral argument with moral value judgments.

Source 2 Title and Citation: “Same-Sex Marriage Will Undermine the Institution of Marriage”
Tubbs, Robert P. If not, explain how you determined this.
The author uses moral reasoning in this article, as he believes religion ought to be given a small voice in public schools, to prevent a society full of only secular thinkers. If none exist, explain how you determined this.

1. “According to creationists, the Earth is only about 6,000 years old” This presents a vague suggestion in regard to the true age of the Earth.
2. “Creationists often insist that since evolution is a "theory," it is only a guess, no better than any other. However, in science, a theory is a statement of general principles that explain many facts by means of natural processes. The proposition that the planets revolve around the sun (Copernican theory) explains a great many astronomical facts and also is considered true beyond a reasonable doubt. In the same way, geological examination of rocks demonstrates beyond a reasonable doubt that the earth is extremely old. The theory of evolution explains a tremendous number of biological and paleontological facts, and it, too, is true beyond a reasonable doubt. Nevertheless, all these theories could be altered or replaced if new observations yielded new scientific evidence that contradicted predictions of these theories. Creationism, on the other hand, is not even a theory because its proponents have decided in advance that no amount of evidence will change their beliefs.” This passage mostly presents vague definitions by using the words like “great many” and “extremely old.”
3. “Scientific literacy is in short supply among American students” This is vague because the capacity of American students and was not specific.

4
Do you find the source credible?
