Staying on subject, we discussed how outside sources such as; people, positive or negative experiences and media have impacted our attitude development . We agreed, YEP! Sure has. Although neither of us could relate anyone in particular other than our parents through punishment, reward and imitation ( social learning) , we agreed that all the people we have met and interacted within our lives have in some way contributed towards our attitudes, including the relationship between the two of us. We decided for purposes of this paper we would just state that the positive and negative experiences that have contributed to our attitude development would be left to employment experiences.
The first positive experience that boosted our ego ideal [Freud, Sigmund; (Morris & Maisto, 2005, pp. 420, ¶ 6)] of what we perceive we want to be would be our first promotion in our jobs. Of course, the negative would be the first time when we were “laid off” dealing a crushing blow to the humanistic root of our personalities, best discovered by this personal interview (Morris & Maisto, 2005, p. 442, summary table). We agreed that the media has played a large factor in the development of our attitudes, whether consciously or subconsciously is difficult to determine.
