Denial – I work with many sick patients who have ESRD (End Stage Renal Disease) and many of them are in complete denial about their sickness. I have seen how some of them say oh this is just temporary, my kidneys will work again in no time, I am just a passerby and I will not be here for long. The reality is that once they have ESRD they are on dialysis for the rest of their lives or until they get a transplant, but they do not accept that.
An advantage to denial is that the patient is not accepting their disease, therefore they continue to fight it; in other words, they do not give up.
