Q:
In this project, you will design an ontology for domain chosen from the list below. Before you begin you need to complete the tutorial exercises of Chapters 4 and 5 and submit the pizza ontology when you submit the project.

Here is a list of domain choices:

Choice1: The Australian Superannuation Act: http://www.austlii.edu.au/au/legis/cth/consol_reg/sir1994582/

Choice 2: Sarbanes Oxley Act: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sarbanes-Oxley_Act

Choice 3: Create an ontology describing a government. Not a specific government
rather a generic view of how a government looks like. These links may be useful:
The US Federal Enterprise Architecture: http://www.whitehouse.gov/omb/egov/a-1-fea.html
UK Government Enterprise Architecture: http://www.cio.gov.uk/documents/cto/pdf/enterprise_architecture_uk.pdf
UK Chief Information Officer Council site http://www.cio.gov.uk/
The Australian Government Information Management Office
http://www.finance.gov.au/agimo/

Choice 4: “Optimization Problems” are a very important class of problems in the IT industry. Create an ontology that describes what constitutes “Optimization” problem. Wikepdia entry http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Optimization_(mathematics), is a good place to start, particularly the additional links available there are useful.

Choices 1 and 2 are fairly well bounded by the links included. Choices 3 and 4 may require some additional research on your part.

For your chosen domain answer the following questions before you embark of the creating your ontology with Protégé.

(1 mark) What is the domain that the ontology will cover? For what we are going to use the ontology? Give at least three scenarios.

(1 mark) For what types of questions the information in the ontology should provide answers, and who will use and maintain the ontology?

(2 marks) Have you found any related ontologies on the web? Search some existing repositories and identify the closed ones to ytour chosen domain. Here are the links for some existing repositories:
Ontolingua ontology library: http://www.ksl.stanford.edu/software/ontolingua/)
DAML ontology library: (http://www.daml.org/ontologies/)
Swoogle: http://swoogle.umbc.edu/

(2 marks) Give the list of concepts with their definitions that you have in your ontology.

(2 marks) Give list of properties you have for each concept. That is what you like to say about those concepts?

(10 marks) Use Protégé to code the ontology. (8 marks, 2 marks for the Pizza ontology)

(5 marks) Give a summary of key features of your ontology and produce diagrams describing your ontology. Include these in your report

( 2marks) Give a description of the engineering process: length of time, various tasks involved: their length of time and sequencing, any problems encountered and how they were resolved. It is expected that various people within the team would have different conceptualization of the domain, or perhaps even different concepts to express the same conceptualization. If you are working in a group you need to have an additional section in your report describing any alignment/merging/inconsistencies and any mappings or other mechanisms you used to resolve them.

You are expected to submit a report answering all above questions, and describing your ontology. You are expected to submit graphical representation of your ontology within the report, as well as the Protégé file. Poor presentation will lead to loss of marks.

Do not forget to submit the Pizza ontology as another Protégé file as well.
