Many were separated from their families for long periods of time during this unwelcome invasion. The people of Lake Bhangazi were forced to leave much of their personal belongings behind; from their livestock to their beloved ancestors. There were no answers as to why they were so abruptly removed from their homeland.             According to Skelcher (2003) “in the early 1990s, mining companies discovered titanium in the towering sand dunes along the shores of the Indian Ocean, stretching from Richard’s Bay to the border of Mozambique” (p.768). After time more minerals were discovered like gold and copper. Once these minerals were discovered there was an urgent need for Europeans to claim the land. Throughout the 1900’s the people from various areas of South Africa were removed by force from their land to make way for mining. To make it easier to force out natives of the land the British government denied them access to the resources they utilized to survive. The South Africans had no other choice but to work in the mines to make a living. According to Skelcher (2003) “the British accomplished this by imposing a hut tax and demanded labor from Inkhosis” (p.769). During this time the White people were the only ones who had access to the resources. Fig 1: Map of South Africa Source: Lonely Planet (2009).   ...

A bond forms between co-workers and effective task completion takes place due to the easier flow between co-workers. This new format that the organization adopts changes the overall functioning. Overhalt (1996) stated that “that thinking process requires a paradigm shift, a diminished emphasis on a control-based organization and a greater emphasis on a people-centered organization” (p.92). The new people-centered approach brought about a new structure for employees to follow. The advantage a flexible organization would have is the ability to change as needed. As new legislation passes as well as the needs of the community the organization would be capable of providing the best care possible. The ability to change things allows the company the advantage because of the almost instant upgrades that can take place to fit in with the client’s needs.             There are obvious differences between a formal organization and a flexible organization. Within the organization the responsibility assigned to an individual to form activities would be different. A formal organization may have one person in charge of setting activities for the entire group. In a flexible organization the whole group would have   input into the formatting of activities. Hierarchy would be apparent in formal organizations whereas ...

Rehabilitation can be used to assist the offender to change his ways. He may be able to                                                                                                            transform himself to recognizing the difference between right and wrong. Some sociologists believe that deviance is a learned behavior that can be changed. Through the right programs, tailored to each specific offense, a person may learn the mistakes he has made and not repeat them.             By placing an individual under societal protection, we are incarcerating them or sentencing them to death. This form of punishment does not prove to be effective because the United States prison systems continue to be overpopulated. Bosworth (2002) states that “Despite the building of 20 new facilities between 1987 and 1992 alone, the system is heavily overcrowded, primarily with prisoners convicted of drug-related offenses, who make up 60% of its population.” (¶1). Dorman (2004) states “the crime rate is high because crime still pays”. If this is true than we will always be subjected to criminal activity. It is in our power to minimize the activity by enforcing stricter consequences.             Some believ ...

In order for organizations to be competitive in their industry they must meet the demand of the consumer. Organizations worldwide are focused on quick results as a result of upgrading their equipment. Strumar (1994), calls this process “manufacturing modernization” (p.1). Strumar consulted for the board for many top brand appliances in modernizing their factories. Strumar believed that modernization does not only address the issue of outdated equipment but new business management. Organizations then prepare to modernize everything that had to do with their production. According to Strumar (1994), areas that are affected are “marketing, sales, engineering, purchasing, and distribution” (p.1).             Modernization is affected by many key features: capitalism, persistent inequality, mass society, and class society. Each key affects modernization in a unique way. The following is four examples of modernization and their key feature: Newer inventions such as the television and computers created a new sense of capitalism.
