National parks, bans on whaling by most nations other than a few such as Russia and Japan; strict hunting regulations, pollution regulations and promotion of renewable energy sources are just a few of the way’s intentional or not, are helping to protect the worlds endangered species. We are now in the 21st century and many other nations are entering the 20th, nations such as China and India are burning fossil fuels in record amounts to advance their lifestyles and societies, adding pollutants that increase global warming, habitat destruction and degradation of their and our earth’s resources. Other less developed nations overfish and hunt species to near extinction out of ignorance, or simple financial gain. A long-term plan for sustainability is needed to ensure the continued wellbeing of our environment and the various species that rely on it. The time has come that all advanced nations begin implementation of programs to stop overexploitation of our natural resources; and the introduction of pollutants into our atmosphere and water systems that threaten their existence. A five year plan needs to be implemented by these progressive nations to be held as an example to developing industrial nations.
