Review examples 2, 3, and 4 in section 8.4 of the text. How does the author determine what the first equation should be? What about the second equation? How are these examples similar? How are they different?   

Word Count Must Be 200 - 300 Words - Will need to show work.

2.  Retail Sales.  Mountainside Fleece sole 40 neck warmers.  Solid-color neck warmers sold for $9.90 each and print neck warmers sold for $12.75 each. In all, $421.65 was taken in for the neck warmers.  How many of each type were sold?

3.  Sales of Pharmaceuticals.  In 2004, the Diabetic Express charged $27.06 for a vial of Humulin insulin and $34.39 for a vial of Novolin Velosulin insulin.  If a total of $1565.57 was collected on 50 vials of insulin, how many vials of each type were sold?

Preview: ... con I can think of is that sloppy calculations can lead to incorrect solutions.   I think that the elimination method is the best. I can even do calculations in my mind and it makes it much faster. I would use graphing method when I need a rough idea of the solutions. I would use substitution method if one of the variables is isolated in one of the equations (one of the equations is already solved for y or for x). And in other cases I prefer the elimination method.   DQ2 The author determines the first equation from the number of total objects or volume of solution or the total loan in each problem.   To find the second equation the author breaks down the information provided in the problem such as the concentrations of solutions, interest rates, and similar percentages.   All the three problems have similar format—the total amoun ...
