Also if 100% employment was undertaken precious resources would soon be exhausted. So there are some slim benefits to some types of unemployment. Not enough to justify sometimes such large numbers of people redundant whether involuntarily or voluntarily.<br><br>So what are the means by which unemployment can be controlled? Well some forms of unemployment are uncontrollable, like frictional, it cant be helped that people are temporarily unemployed whilst changing jobs. However some types of unemployment it is possible to assist in. The government embraces unemployment as a permanent problem and has therefore set up strong attempts at controlling the levels of unemployment to avoid problems with the finely balanced economy.<br><br>The governments ambition is to provide ample jobs and keep employment high. It has undertaken this task by using policies or employment programmes. For example the Labour governments new deal programme has made attempts to reduce long term employment by increasing the human capital of the unemployed and improving their employability in the eyes of employers. The new deal programme also reaches out to those who have stopped the active search for work. These discouraged workers are persuaded to return to work.
