(Bruder & Moore, 2002)This concept has been in mainstream society for many years and is evident in everyone’s daily lives, including mine. The separate souls are evident when a person experiences different types of stress or exhaustion. The soul of the mind is recognized when a white-collar worker focuses on a project all day to meet an urgent deadline. At the end of the day, this person feels mentally drained, but the physical body may not be tired. A blue-collar worker may physically exhaust him or herself, but their mind races at the end of the day. Finally, the soul of the spirit is shown when a person experiences a loss of a close relative or birth of a child. The emotion that is shown is of the spirit, and has almost nothing to do with mental or physical aspects of a human.<br><br>Christianity and Platonic Philosophy<br><br>Dualism - St. Augustine was the most prevalent philosopher in applying philosophy to Christianity. His concept of Dualism, the human experience and the force that is beyond comprehension for humans, are two separate living things. I was raised in a Christian family, and was taught the commandments and teachings of the bible. The moral decisions that I make today come from this background of learning the difference between right and wrong in the eyes of God. The moral and ethical decisions that I make as a professional also come from Christianity. Business in the United States is mostly centered on the Christian perspective of what is right and wrong, or politically correct. The work of St. Augustine allowed Christians to better understand the words of the Bible, and because of this, I am able to make what I believe are sound moral and ethical decisions.<br><br>The Person that I Am - Each human has individual characteristics that make us unique. If I were to become the person that everyone else believes I should be, then I would be a product of his or her vision instead of my own. I believe that my vision is to be the kind of person that follows her heart, thinks with her mind, and overcomes any challenge that comes her way. If everyone were a cookie cutter model of other’s opinions, then we would not be the unique person that each human is. However, what a person believes that he or she is does not mean that we are what others think we are.<br><br>Society and the environment in which a person is exposed to have a profound influence on a person. However, I think that I still have the ability to recognize these influences and conduct myself in a way that I still think for myself. Of course, as a professional I sometimes have to conform with society to keep my employment, but when I am on my own time, I rarely let society and my environment dictate how I live my life. While still trying to do what is best for the greater good, I prefer to make decisions that ensure my family’s and my wellbeing and happiness.<br><br>We all succumb to social influence at some point in our lives. Whether it is in High School where the peer pressures are dominant or in the adult stage when it is predominately evident that one must succeed in life. Either way, we conform to society in either an informational sense, which is copying the behavior of others, or a normative sense, which is wanting to belong to a group and conforming to the masses.<br>Social influences are abundant in today’s society.
