Nonrenewable resources such as coal, petroleum, natural gases, and nuclear power take millions of years to reform again and eventually will become to costly to harvest then humans would have to other sources for energy.
Nonliving factors that contribute or are affected by energy consumption are sunlight, temperature, precipitation, water, and soil. Sunlight and temperature are both contributions to energy consumption. By using the sunlight and the temperature we can use other renewable resources for sources of light and energy instead of using the nonrenewable resources we currently use. Water and soil are affected by sunlight and temperature already.
Living factors that may contribute or be affected by energy consumption are herbivores (animals that only eat plants), carnivores (Animals that feed on other animals or material of animal origin), and omnivores (Animals that feed on material of both plant and animal origin). When the plants are affected by energy consumption that means that there are less of them for the herbivores to eat and stay alive. If these herbivores don’t have food to eat and stay healthy they will die and the carnivores which feed off of them may get sick and pass on themselves. Omnivores are affected because they may also get sick from eating plants and other animals which are unhealthy due to lack of energy.
An example of positive human impact for energy conservation would be that humans have come up with new ideas to create energy such as renewable sources. Also there have been contributions to help with energy conservation efforts. For example, undergraduate students at the University of Guelph have done have committed 4.3 million dollars to improve energy efficiency on campus. The students were asked to contribute $10 a month for 12 months to go to energy conservation for the school. The school itself w ...

The government should put policies and laws in place which prevent factories from pumping dangerous levels of toxins in to the air. Factories should be inspected by an independent pollution specialist who will notify factories who are exceeding the set limit of pollution per day, and any companies found to be breaking this policy will immediately be fined. Fines will be issued for each act of pollution that a company has been seen to commit. Fines will be used to fund the specialist units, used to build water purifiers which will help to limit the pollutants effect on the crops, to clean the soot and ash from the streets, disposing of it properly, and to produce an effective campaign to educate the population on the dangers of breathing in the harmful air. Target rates of reduction will initially be set, which all firms must comply to. This will be decreased in stages over each industry, with the worst affected seeing the largest reductions in allowable pollutants. Targets will be set and monitored by an independent review team. Governmental factories and plants will be included in the effort to ensure they are setting a good example for others. The government should use renewable resources where possible to generate power and ensure each of its plants are hitting its targets consistently.
At the same time advertising campaigns should be set up to alert the nation to the hazards of air pollution. This can be completed on the back of other health related campaigns in order to keep the costs down. The people should be educated about what air pollution means for them in terms of health, crops, and the environment as a whole. They should be encouraged to report any factory violating the new policies, which will help to keep it in check. Workers who have been educated about the harm of air pollution will have more incentive to report offenders once they know of the damage it can cause to them and their families. Education needs to be directed towards all levels of the population, from children in school, through to workers and factory proprietors. The adverts should take the form of all popular media, adverts in papers, bill boards, radio, television and any other forms of conveying the message th ...

Decrease in ozone layer has the potentiality of damaging human and animal health related to skin, eye and immune systems. Extended exposure to sunlight and UV-Rays will lead to cancer of the skin. Scientist predict that a one percent decrease in ozone layer will result in a three percent increase of skin cancer The harmful effect of decrease of ozone layer in vegetation is visible over recent decades. It has caused decrease of crop yields in the Mediterranean crops and also the crops in Europe and America. Its effects in causing damage to crops have been recognized in Latin America, northern and southern Africa, South Asia and China. Change in species distributions, population sizes, and the timing of reproduction or migration events are estimated to be a result of this decrease in ozone layer and the resultant global warming.
The acid which has formed because of air pollution may return to the earth as rain, fog, or snow, and in the wet form as "acid rain”Acid rain destroys the plant and aquatic life by destroying the nutrients present in the soil and water. Since all living beings are dependent on plants for their food, the destruction of plants affects the other living beings as well.
Positive or negative human impacts:
Positive Impacts: Most people of the world have begun to realize the harmful effects of Atmospheric Pollution and are trying to find out ways and means to reduce their effects. Throughout the world, a number of national and international organizations, including the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), the World Bank, the World Health Organization, the UN Development Program (UNDP), and the World Meteorological Organization, are conducting research on and/or working to reduce air pollution

Negative Impact:” Over 90% of sulfur dioxide emissions and around 95% of nitrogen oxides released into the air are from man made sources.. Electric companies and other power plants and industries which burn coal and other fossil fuels to generate energy cause a lot of emission of sulfur dioxide. Other industries which process raw ore containing sulphides in order to obtain copper, zinc or nickel also causes an increase in sulphur dioxide levels in the atmosphere. Carbon dioxide emissions come from the burning of gasoline in internal-combustion engines of cars and light trucks (minivans, sport utility vehicles, pick-up trucks, and jeeps. Vehicles with poor gas mileage contribute the most to global warming. “Methane is derived from sources such as rice paddies, bovine flatulence, bacteria ...

They are two state governments that are working within their state to reduce greenhouse gases, find alternatives for technology, and solutions that will affect the state in an overall future status.
These three initiatives of sustainability policies and plans (internationally, nationally, and state/locally) have been evaluated to be successful within the means and plans that they each have decided upon. However, this is not enough. Although it would be great if there could be a global warming mitigation plan that could apply globally, but considering that each plan must tailor itself to its own needs of the nation and economy, this simply wouldn’t be effective. Thus, my plan focuses more on what to do nationally, hopefully leading as an example to the rest of the world to catch up with the “times” that something definitely needs to be soon.
My plan for the complex and difficult nature of problems and issues requires a comprehensive plan of management of sources that contribute to the global warming “greenhouse effect”, innovative technology, and a program system to manage these processes. Global warming management requires a relationship between businesses, civil society and governments; none of these divisions can individually deliver a solution on their own.
First and foremost, research should be conducted in identifying the effects of global warming within the United States as a nation, and essentially recognize the potential sources for such effects. Accessing environmental Web sites and journals and documenting the sources can establish a task of targeting these sources. Interviews of environmental scientists and educators can be conducted in regards to both environmental and humanity effects of global warming. I approximate that this research can extend from a period of anywhere from one to three months, depending on the amount and quality of knowledge collected.
Thus, once the proper information has been collected, there are possible courses of action I want to see implemented within the nation.
A Carbon Tax is the most uncomplicated system to pursue – because CO2 emissions are continuing to threaten the Earth’s future, this tax uses the knowledge and tools that would, ...

Pressure to produce children, particularly male children, is more likely to be greater in the less developed countries where these pressures exist.
Access to birth control as a means to control population is not equal in countries throughout the world. This access can be limited by social, religious, and educational factors. As an example, the Roman Catholic Church frowns on the use of any form of birth control, so countries that are heavily influenced by the Roman Catholic Church may have higher birth rates than other countries. Also, social pressures, like Marxism, supports higher birth rates. Governments can also influence birth rates in the opposite manner, such as in China where limits are placed on the number of children any couple can have in an attempt to curb the country's overpopulation issues (Barrow, 1999).
Another factor in overpopulation is the increase in the average life expectancy. From 1950-1955, the global average life expectancy at birth was 46 years. By 2000-2005, that number had increased to 65 years and is projected to be 75 years by 2045-2050 (United Nations, 2007). There is a difference, however, between developed and less developed countries with respect to life expectancy. In developed countries, the average life expectancy is currently about 75 years. In the least developed countries, this number is under 50 years. These least developed countries, such as the nations in Africa, cite the HIV/AIDS epidemic has having the greatest impact on their population growth and life expectancy.
Overpopulation is just a function of birth rate or death rates, but of migration. Population movement from a less developed area to a more developed area can place stresses on the more developed area's resource in the same manner than an increase in birth rate would. The United Nations (2007) estimates that the net immigration to more developed regions to be approximately 98 million people. In these more developed regions, the death rate is greater than the birth rate by about 73 million, so the population growth will be due to migration and not births.
As countries see their population increase and their resources decrease, nations are taking different actions to address the issue of overpopulation. China is well-known for their attempts to limit their growing population by instituting a mandatory limit on the number of children a couple can have.
In other countries, the focus has been more on family planning than on access to birth control (Smith, 2008). In June 2008, Egypt announced that it was ...

Preview: ... nation’s power grid is not as easy as one would think. Renewable energy, in all its forms, has even received criticism from leading environmental groups: “hydro for river habitat destruction, wind for avian mortality, solar for desert overdevelopment, biomass for air emissions, and geothermal for depletion and toxic discharges” (Bradley, 1997, ¶ 2).
Despite those arguments, renewable energy methods still produce far less environmental impact than the use of fossil fuels for energy. Does mining and drilling for fossil fuels not destroy ecosystems? Does burning fossil fuels not destroy ecosystems on a grander scale? For certain, the world’s populations must convert to a heavier reliance on renewable energy if the planet is to survive. The following paragraphs outline a plan for energy sustainability as envisioned by the author.
In order to truly convert the world to renewable energy, the world’s governments will have to make equal commitments to change. Presenting a well-researched, effective report will be the first step in making a difference. During a six month period, collection of data relating to CO2, SO2, and NOX emissions should be collected. This will serve as the control data, which will be used to measure the effectiveness of new techniques. During this six month period, additional research of academic and scientific journals could provide insight into methods and techniques for reducing emissions of coal-burning power plants.
To effectively address the energy crisis, it is also necessary to research building and implementation requirements for renewable energy equipment. During the aforementioned six month period, researchers should also find sites where the equipment required for renewable energy will operate at highest efficiency. For example, areas of the nation that experience the highest average sustained wind speed (and are not already outfitted for wind energy production) need to be identified as areas where wind turbines can be installed. Areas already identified as deserts would likely present the most efficient locations for massive solar panels.
Once data is collected and the most efficient sites for installation of alternative energy equipment have been identified, a high-quality, professional pres ...
