There are numerous drugs on the market and in use today, from prescriptions to over-the-counter drugs to illegal substances. These drugs have become twice as effective but in the same token, twice as harmful, and even fatal. <br> Various divisions of performance-enhancing drugs exist in the present day. There are specific substances used to build mass and strength. Anabolic steroids are the most widely used in this classification as well as the most thought of drug used in the sports world. Developed in the 80’s, hGH is another drug used to increase muscle mass and decrease fat tissue. Other substances are used to mask pain. Narcotics, like morphine and heroin, are the most popular in that category. Stimulants are another class, used primarily to reduce fatigue and increase attentiveness. Drugs included in this group are substances such as caffeine, ephedrine, amphetamines, and cocaine. An additional category focuses on increasing oxygen to the tissue in the body. Blood doping is the most common procedure of doing so, though less known about, it is becoming more popular by the day. In this process, athletes are infused with whole blood, which increases the body’s supply of oxygen-carrying red blood cells.
