Q:Finalizing the Research Paper & Crediting Sources
*Assignment: Research Paper due by Class 16
Write a 3 to 5 page research paper on the subject of your choice. Ideally, you will have been writing on this subject for you paper #5, and if so, you will already have a great deal of the work behind you. To complete and get credit for this important paper, you will need to use a minimum of four (4) sources – and you will need to credit those sources with proper parenthetic documentation in the MLA format. Further, you will need to include a properly formatted Works Cited page listing your sources in alphabetical order.
Lecture: Finalizing the Research Paper & Crediting Sources
Last week we worked on selecting a topic and finding our four sources. That work should be behind us now, and we should concentrate on organizing, focusing, and writing the paper this week. I have included below a long section of hints on how to do the actual work, but the actual work is yours and yours alone. Remember, in order to pass the class, you must complete the research paper.
Now, a word about crediting your sources. You are required to credit or cite the sources of any quotation, close paraphrase, fact, figure, statistic, or important date. This means you have to tell your reader where you came up with that information. The format you will use is the Modern Language Association (MLA) parenthetic documentation. This just means that after every quotation, close paraphrase, fact, figure, statistic, or important date you will include the author’s last name (or the first one or two important works of the “title”) followed by the page number. If you are using an Internet source and no page number is given, then write “np.” You will find a complete discussion of this in SSW beginning on page 376.
At the end of the paper you are required to include a Works Cited page in which you list your four sources using the MLA format for Works Cited pages. You will find a complete discussion of this in SSW beginning on page 376.
Assignment: Research Paper due Class 16. The requirements are these: 3 to 5 pages, 4 sources, MLA Documentation of sources (next class’s lesson) and Works Cited page.
