Q:
CRJ101-0901B-03 Introduction to Criminal Justice
Assignment Name: Unit 1 Discussion Board
Deliverable Length: 3-4 paragraphs
Details:

A local police officer is investigating a local narcotics trafficker. After a brief undercover operation, the trafficker is arrested and indicates his/her willingness to cooperate in order to get consideration from the judge during sentencing. As you debrief the subject you realize that almost all of the information involves conspiratorial activities out of your home state. The information provided also has identified millions of dollars in assets possessed by this group that are all situated out of state and have no nexus to your current investigation.

Consider the following in your response:

* Is this matter better investigated under federal law or state law? Why?
* How can this matter be brought into the federal system?
* Would the local department be entitled to share in the assets forfeited by the trafficking group even if they are located and seized outside the local jurisdiction?
