During continuous physical exercise such as running, walking over long distances, etc. our muscles work too fast, but do not get enough oxygen. In such a situation, muscles keep working in the absence of oxygen (anaerobic respiration) to provide extra energy. Thus, lactic acid is produced in such muscles due to anaerobic respiration. Its accumulation in our muscles brings about a feeling of fatigue due to a condition known as Oxygen debt.
