SuperNova186k
About SuperNova186k: I was born in 1975 to insane children of the 70’s! My parent’s marriage lasted less than a year and I was primarily raised by a mother who couldn't figure out why the spirit of Haite Ashberry had ever dwindled. The only benefit I can see in being raised by a hippy was that she did instill in me a love of reading and imagination. I learned to read at an early age and my imagination was hence fueled by books and science fiction. I was two years old when Star Wars was released and my earliest memory is of the drive in theater where I first saw the film. Then came the zombies. Growing up in the 80’s, I had, like many of my generation, a healthy fear of nuclear apocalypse. Mad Max had shown us the dreary wasteland of things to come and I remember always having a plan for seeking refuge high in the mountains that surrounded Boise when the third and final war broke out. On Halloween of my fourth grade year, the local television network was running a marathon of horror movies and due to the holiday falling on a weekend, I was permitted to stay up late and watch the fright-fest. Even then I was no stranger to the cheaply made creature feature but nothing could’ve prepared me for Night of the Living Dead! Zombies that wanted nothing more than to feast upon the flesh of the living, what could be more horrifying? I remember not getting much sleep at night, always with ears straining to hear the moaning or irregular shuffling of the walking dead as they inevitably approached my basement bedroom with arms outstretched and hungry mouths agape. It wasn’t until after high school that I was able to cinch my belt tight and face those terrifying films again. After finishing high school, I immediately began attending college only to find myself penniless and starving after only two semesters. By the time I was 22, I realized that I would never complete school unless I could come up with a more creative way to finance it. That’s when I joined the Army National Guard. The training was difficult and the lifestyle didn’t exactly reward independent thought, but the educational benefits were good and upon arriving home from training I quickly enrolled in college again. I soon found myself attending school and working at HP in Boise. That’s where I met my future ex-wife, I found myself married to her a year later and with a child on the way. It was because of the forthcoming birth of my daughter that I decided to go active in the Army. My then wife, and I soon found ourselves relocated to Texas where my daughter, Sciartia, was born. During this time I applied for U.S. Army Aviator School and passed my flight-test with honors, but my wife despised the military life and offered me a choice; pursue my flight status and lose my family or leave the Army and move with her back to Idaho. After a year of active duty, I was Honorably released and my family moved back to Idaho where my youngest son, Nikola was born. Over the next several years, life became a struggle of trying to raise the children and provide for my family. I always entertained the idea of returning to college and even had a couple false starts. But now, at the age of 34 I finally find myself re-enrolled. With any luck I will be able to complete my degree soon and achieve the employment that will afford me the luxury of seeking refuge high in the mountains for when the zombies come. After all, I intend to be prepared!
